If you are anxious, remember this

It’s ok to be anxious, even sometimes you might just get anxious at a certain situation you may have to deal with it. The most important thing to remember when you feel anxious is be gentle on yourself, talk to your inner mind and talk through the situation. Congratulate yourself when the situation is over. Just because you felt anxious doesn’t mean you have to feel like you failed a situation. If you still went through it then congratulate yourself that you did something and you were anxious and you still did it anyway.

This can relate to a fear of heights or travelling on an airplane. If you start to feel anxious about a possibly dangerous situation and your gut (stomach) is sending you a warning, this is when you need to listen to it and find another way.

Do you see the difference?

One is safe, like climbing a tall mountain in a safe way even though you may be afraid of heights and the other is you might be walking straight into a dangerous situation.

So knowing what to listen to is important.

Also, if you are feeling anxious and you are unsure why, try to distract yourself from it. If there is no reason, then take some deep breaths, put on a weighted blanket or any blanket to feel protected in. Use self care to really just calm down. Listen to some feel good or relaxing music, now is not the time to listen to emotional songs. Lay down if you want to. Once it starts to ease think about what self care do you want to do next?

For example, you could give your feet and hands a bit of a massage. Connecting to your body is a great way to calm down. Do something with your hands like gardening or woodwork. Take three deep breaths. Now is not the time to think negatively so if you do, purposely say something nice to yourself that is opposite to what your thoughts are saying.

If you can pat an animal, do it. Animals are great for when feeling anxious. If you can be outside for even a few minutes this can help you just breathe and let go. A walk is even better and you can let your mind find solutions to your problems.

Also remember, if your anxiety gets worse over time and more frequently go see your local doctor and let them know.  It’s important you talk to a professional to help you work out the next steps. Think about any changes you may have had to work out why you are more anxious.

The great treatment of anxiety is through using techniques. You can actually learn techniques to help yourself calm down and cope.
